Anti-Bullying Information
Bullying is always treated very seriously at Gorse Covert Primary.
Children will always find times when they might fall out with their friends. These times are a part of life and teach them important social skills around sharing, conflict resolution, being assertive, being honest and handling emotions. It is when these odd occasions become more regular that it can result in distress for a child and an adult is needed to support. More often than not, it can be resolved quickly by teaching children how to respond better to frustrations and about understanding another person’s perspective. In most cases this social education is enough to rectify behaviour and our philosophy is to educate before punishing. If education is not enough and the behaviour continues repeatedly, it could be considered bullying and requires further intervention and consequences.
Please see our Anti-Bullying Policy in our policy section.
Below are a few facts about bullying at Gorse Covert.
- Whenever the word ‘bullying’ is used by a parent, child or teacher, the Headteacher will investigate the matter and monitor the case until it is resolved.
- In the last 5 years there have been 7 cases of reported bullying investigated.
- Of these 7 cases, all were investigated after the initial report, the children involved talked to and there were no further incidents. The case was closed in less than 1 month.
- 2 cases also included cyber bullying. The vast majority were ‘friends falling out’.
- We currently only have 1 case which is being monitored. All others have been resolved and are closed cases.
Anti-bullying is a core part of our general ethos and PSHE curriculum. As a result of this, there are very few cases of bullying. In 2018-19 there were 3 cases. In 2019-20, 2020-21, 21021-22 and 2022-23 there was only 1 case reported (school partially closed due to Covid-19).
